A university at the same age as the Republic.

Gazi University is an education institute at the same age the Republic. One unit of it is Music Teachers' College (Musiki Muallim Mektebi) opened in Ankara in 1924 and the other unit is College for Training Teachers for Secondary Schools (Orta Muallim Mektebi) opened in Konya in 1926.

It moved to Ankara in 1927 and took the name Teacher Training Institute for Secondary Schools (Orta Muallim Terbiye Enstitüsü) after joining with Gazi Teachers' College (Gazi Erkek İlk Muallim Mektebi) training male teachers for primary schools in the building originally built for for this purpose and which is now used as Gazi University Rectorate building. Music Teachers' College (Musiki Muallim Mektebi) was also added to the institute as a department. In the later years, with the opening of the pedagogy and philology departments, it has become a leading education institute in the country on teacher training.

Born in the glorious building constructed according to the perfect Project by Architect Kemaleddin, our university is aware of what an important mission it has undertaken. Born into the arms of the Republic, it will foster the principles of the Republic forever.

The institute took the name Gazi Teachers' College and Training Institute for Secondary Education (Gazi Orta Muallim Mektebi ve Terbiye Enstitüsü) in 1929 and in 1976 its name was changed to Gazi Teacher Training Institute (Gazi Eğitim Enstitüsü). This name remained unchanged until 1982 which marked a new turning point. That institute born with the Republic was born again as a glorious university in Ankara in 1982 and took its place among the biggest not only in the capital city but also in the country.

This glorious institution, which fosters the basic principles and contemporaneous understanding of the Republic continues to grow adapting a quality of a leading science and education centre by embracing the distinguished schools of Turkey such as Ankara High Teacher Technical School, Ankara Technical High Teacher School for Girls, Ankara Economical and Commercial Sciences College, Ankara State Engineering and Architecture College, Faculty of Medicine, Press and Information College.

Today Gazi University is continuing its education and training in its 14 faculties, 5 colleges, 9 vocational collages, 5 institutes and 35 research centres in Ankara. With its units our university is continuing to be an institute synthesised with its long and glorious history of almost 80 years with a modern and secular understanding of science, its cultural and intellectual qualities and the dynamism resulting from its experience.
